Session Expectations
What actually happens during your appointment, step by step.
Please note:This is Inkspot's standard guidance. Your artist may provide their own instructions — always follow what your artist tells you for your specific tattoo.
Knowing what to expect helps you relax and get the most out of your session. Here is how a typical appointment unfolds.
Consultation and stencil
- Your artist will confirm the design, size, and placement with you before starting.
- A stencil is applied so you can check the position in the mirror — speak up now if you want to adjust it.
- Final pricing and the estimated duration will be confirmed before the needle touches your skin.
During the tattoo
- You may feel scratching, heat, or vibration — discomfort varies by placement and your pain tolerance.
- Tell your artist if you need a break, feel faint, or want to adjust your position. Breaks are completely normal.
- Stay as still as you comfortably can; sudden movements can affect line work.
Timing and breaks
- Larger pieces may need several hours or multiple sessions — your artist will explain the plan.
- Hydrate and snack during breaks to keep your energy up.
When it’s finished
- Your artist will clean the area and apply a protective covering.
- You’ll be given aftercare guidance — follow it closely for the best healing.
- The remaining balance is settled at the end of the session.
